Statement from Taylor Knuth on the Community Renewable Energy Program: “Ogden Deserves Fiscally Responsible and Sustainable Policy”

OGDEN, UT – Candidate for Ogden City Mayor, Taylor Knuth, released the following statement on the future of the Community Renewable Energy Program (CREP):

“I am very concerned about this administration and other elected officials' recent indication that they may support pulling Ogden City out of the Community Renewable Energy Program. This program represents a vital opportunity for us to secure a sustainable future as an outdoor recreation hub and to protect our environment for generations to come.

“It is disheartening to see our city's $77,000 financial investment in CREP and the countless hours dedicated by our staff towards research and implementation being disregarded without robust dialogue or consideration of the wants and needs of our community. The decision to walk back our efforts and abandon this hopeful initiative is a disservice to our taxpayers and a missed opportunity to lead the way in sustainable energy practices.

“If executed, I would strongly disagree with the decision and pledge to fight for our continued participation in the Community Renewable Energy Program. I firmly believe that we must be proactive in protecting and preserving our environment, and that means actively pursuing clean energy solutions.

“The people of Ogden deserve to be at the center of decision-making, and they have been left out when it comes to CREP. Ogdenites overwhelmingly support addressing a shift toward clean energy with urgency. Ogdenites also want our government to spend taxpayer dollars wisely, and potentially walking back this investment is exactly the opposite of fiscal responsibility.

“Together, we can forge a path that not only benefits our community but also serves as an inspiration for others. I urge you to join me in this endeavor, to safeguard our natural resources, and to create a sustainable and thriving future for Ogden City.  It is my understanding that should Ogden City pull out of this agreement, the future mayor will be able to reinstate our status and I fully intend to do that.”

The Preliminary Election for Ogden City is scheduled for September 5, 2023, followed by the General Election on November 21, 2023, where the top two candidates will proceed. To learn more about Taylor Knuth, his policies, and his platform, visit www.taylorforogden.com.
